Curt Flournoy
Owner
Curt Flournoy has been part of functional fitness for more than 10 years. A lifelong competitor, he played baseball, basketball, and tennis in high school, stayed active through college, and later became a highly decorated two-time Dad’s League softball champion. Before finding functional fitness, running was his primary outlet, including completing two full marathons and multiple half marathons.
After moving to New Orleans, Curt was ready for a change of pace from running and decided to give functional fitness a try. He quickly fell in love with the training and community, earning his coaching certification just three months later. He has been coaching full- and part-time ever since, eventually leading him to become the owner of T.H.E. Gym.
What Curt loves most about coaching is watching members reach personal milestones. Whether it’s a new personal best, learning a new skill, or doing something they never thought they could do, those moments are what continue to make coaching meaningful to him.
Outside the gym, Curt is a husband and dad who loves spending time with his family. His philosophy is captured by one of his favorite quotes: “Life doesn’t require that we be our best, only that we try our best.” That idea is also at the heart of T.H.E. Gym’s Train Hard Everyday mentality: whatever you’re doing, show up, put in the effort, and give the day your best.
Brock Sampey
Coach
Brock Sampey has been doing functional fitness for six years and is a Level 1 certified trainer. A lifelong athlete who played sports throughout his school years, Brock found a natural fit in functional fitness and especially loves the competitive side of the sport.
As a coach, Brock loves seeing members put in the effort, push beyond what they thought they could do, and continue getting stronger. He’s a big believer in challenging athletes to test their limits, build confidence, and, of course, put a little more weight on the bar when they’re ready. Brock brings plenty of energy and humor to the gym and enjoys being part of his members’ progress.
Melissa Fowler
Coach
Melissa Fowler has been doing functional fitness since 2012, following an athletic background that included basketball, golf, collegiate softball, and semi-pro slow-pitch softball. Looking for a new challenge after college athletics, she attended her first intro session, jumped in feet first, and never looked back.
Melissa specializes in Olympic lifting and brings years of coaching experience, from travel and high school sports to strength and conditioning. She is passionate about getting to know each athlete, understanding what progress means to them, and helping members build strength and fitness that lasts. What she loves most is seeing members conquer obstacles, celebrate their “firsts,” and realize just how capable they really are.
After relocating to New Orleans for what was supposed to be a short stay, Melissa fell in love with the city, its culture, art, and food, and it’s also where she met her wife. Outside the gym, you’ll often find them cooking together or exploring New Orleans’ restaurant scene. For Melissa, it’s simple: once an athlete, always an athlete.
Aaron Delaune
Coach
Aaron Delaune brings a lifelong love of sports and fitness to T.H.E. Gym. Growing up playing football, basketball, and baseball, athletics were always a big part of his life. That interest took on a new direction after an injury in high school introduced him to rehabilitation and sparked his curiosity about how the body moves, performs, and recovers.
Aaron recently graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in Kinesiology, where he explored paths including physical therapy, athletic training, and coaching before realizing that strength and conditioning was where he felt most at home. He specializes in personal training, strength and conditioning, and health coaching, with plans to continue his education by pursuing certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Nutrition Coach.
What Aaron enjoys most about coaching is the opportunity to positively impact people both physically and mentally while continuing to grow as a coach himself. He values building relationships, meeting new people, and helping members become stronger and healthier along the way.
Outside the gym, Aaron enjoys spending time with friends and family and working on other projects. His approach to both training and life can be summed up by his favorite quote: “No risk, no reward.”
